Northern Americas & Caribbean

Northern American team includes all nations in Northern Americas and British Caribbean, is basically base on American players combining with some Canadians and the only one from Trinidad & Tobago. As soccer is known as an unpopular sports in USA and Canada, there are none of world-class legends to have been produced from the country. However, its first legend was early created in 1930 when USA successfully achieved the third place in World Cup. In the far distance of history to the late 1990s saw Dwight Yorke as the best Northern American player ever.

Formation XI (4-3-1-2)

Explanation of Formation

The team strategy is direct ball with high discipline and physical combat. Brad Friedel beats other great keepers like Meola, Keller and Howard to stand as a first choice. Both full-back are from Canada like Bruce Wilson and Paul Stalteri. Thomas Dooley was born in Germany but he was a USA legendary footballer and Marcelo Balboa was selected in All-Time MLS best XI, will stand as central defender. Walter Bahr is a legend from WC 1950, is set as defensive midfielder. Dampsey and Gonsalves would be divisible as left and right-midfielder respectively. Donovan is already selected as free-role forward behind the main strikers like Patenaude and Yorke.

    1. I’m impressed by Lalas but he get very low seasonal average points by media during his career at Series A.

    Has Tim Howard (GK---USA) achieved enough to be an Honorable Mention?

    1. I’m not always rely on rating in dbscalcio but the case of comparison between Friedel and Howard is exceptional when they’re in a same position, same era and same competition. Fridel obtained the seasonal average rating much higher than Howard so I’d not name Howard in honorable mention.

  7. I agree it's a high time Clint Dempsey replace Claudio Reyna but Tim Howard is not great enough according to seasonal media rating.

  8. Hi Naratorn,

    what do you think about Atiba Hutchinson? He started performing at amazing levels only at Besiktas recently, but he has an amazing Dbscalcio rating for a defensive midfielder...

    http://www.dbscalcio.it/sn-schedaCalciatore.php?nomePlayer=Atiba&cognomePlayer=Hutchinson&dataNascitaPlayer=08-02-1983

    Maybe at the end of the season he'd deserve a mention?

    1. Hi Michele
      Altiba Hutshison has never been named in any top 3 CONCACAF player of the year although he received high avr. seasonal rating 4 consecutive seasons in Turkey. The standard point of rating of Turkish media should be set based on internal competitiveness.

    2. Ok, I didn't check CONCACAF player of the year, even if for a defensive midfielder it is hard to win an award due to their lack of presence in highlights (an exception is Kante in BPL last year). Thanks for your reply!

  9. Joe Kennaway - Canada's Goalkeeper of the Century by IFFHS and 3 times CONCACAF best player of the year;

    Clyde Best - Foward from Bermudas with a interesting carrer in England;

    Ergilio Hato - Curacao goalkeeper that research a very, but very good peak;

    Those players should be under consideration.

  10. It's something weird that Bob Bradley selected. I think Bruce Arena is better choice. Anyway, thanks for the posting.

  11. What about Archie Stark? He's got the record for most goals in a single league season with 70

  12. He played in too low standard of competition in which cannot be assessed how great was he.

  13. He is very young but surely Alphonso Davies has already surpassed Bruce Wilson. He is regarded as one of the world's best leftbacks and starts for one of the strongest clubs. He was also highly rated in the MLS before joining Bayern.

    Bruce Wilson on the other hand, had an irrelevant club career at substandard leagues that were much weaker than even the MLS that Davies played in.

    I think that Craig Forrest a regular keeper for Ipswich in Englad top division can enter the team he was selected by association as member of All-Time Canada XI - men's team.

  15. Canada has not been a nation of big football tradition, but I ellaborated my own all-time XI:

    3-4-3
    GK Milan Borjan
    DF Kevin McKenna, Randy Samuel, Bruce Wilson
    MF Paul Stalteri, Julian de Guzman, Atiba Hutchinson, Alphonso Davies
    FW Junior Hoilett, Alex Bunbury, Tomasz Radzinski

    Bench: Craig Forrest, Lars Hirschfield, Jason de Vos, Robert Iarusci, Mark Watson, Colin Miller, Gerry Gray, Mike Sweeney, Will Johnson, John Catliff, Dwayne De Rosario and Jonathan David.
