Peru National Team

Peru had a high rate of legends creation between 1950s and 1980s. Its first true legend is Alejandro Villanueva in the 1920s.Teodoro Fernandez was one of the best South American strikers in the late 1930s. The 1950s saw Alberto Terry and Valeriano Lopez as one of the leading attackers in the South Americas continent. The most glory era is the 1970s led by Teofilo Cubillas who was one of the superstars of the two World Cups with world-class teammates like Cesar Cueto, Hugo Sotil and Hector Chumpitaz. Since then,  the decline era has been spent without producing any world-class stars to the football game.

Formation XI (4-2-3-1)

Explanation of Formation

The team strategy is Tiki-Taka to dominate ball possession for the gold opportunity to score. Valdivieso is selected as a first choice keeper. Fuentes and Duarte both are assigned to support the wing area regularly when Joya or Sotil move inside. Chumpitaz is a creative sweeper as a main player to set the game from the back-line. Delgado would strongly protect the central defense area in front of him. Velasquez is a tireless destroyer with a quality of coordination to other midfielders. Joya and Sotil is positioned in semi-side offensive midfield area, has a main duty to support scoring. Cueto is responsible to create the game from central midfield area to trequarter area. No Jefferson Farfan? Anywhere!

    1. Kicker rate him in only 2 international-class seasons from total 7 seasons he has played, is not passed criteria to be named in the all-time squad.

Check this out! Very high ratings and certainly more reliable than kicker since it's based of stat (facts) and not subjective opinion. http://www.whoscored.com/Players/5725/History/Jefferson-Farfn

    1. Claudio Pizarro has only one great season in Bundesliga according to Kicker.
I'd prefer J.Mauel Vargas than Ruben Diaz as he obtained high rating in series twice seasons.
Bedoya won too few caps although his skill is regarded as the best Peruvian RB ever.
Jorge Sarmiento and Rafael Asca has not been rated highly to all Peruvian experts I discussed.

I found Jorge Alcade might be great enough to be made profile.

  8. Ismael Soria. Right and left wing half (he could be a modern wing back) for Millonarios and Universitario, during the golden age of Colombian football. He is praised in lots of sources, but in this one he is rated as one of the best Peruvian defenders ever:

    2. He is rated highly in club level but he was never capped so I don't consider him in setting profile.

  9. Farfán, Guerrero, Pizarro, R.Díaz, Asca, Bedoya, I.Soria, Loayza. All of them could be a top-3 in their roles. Jorge Kochoy Sarmiento, hardly makes a top-5, even he's the most decorated player (in amateur era).

Narathorn, please, could you move Gallardo and Oblitas into Forward category, they played in a 4-men and 3-men forward lines in their eras.

Is there any Chance to include Cubillas in the 50 all time greatest in world Football historic Center

    1. I think all current top 50 footballers are clearly better than him.

  11. Peru World Cup participations include 1930, not 1986 when the current Argentinian coach (2021) of Peru helped Argentina's Maradona qualify for the 1986 World Cup. It was a goal that eliminated Peru, otherwise Maradona, arguably the best soccer player, could have missed that World Cup. The author is right in using the term Tiki-Taka: although some credit the Netherlands, Peru was practicing a precursor of Tiki-Taka in the 1970's, even sometimes to this day, and Hugo Sotil played for Barcelona. Pele reportedly called Teofilo Cubillas his successor, should be top 50 at least.
