North Africa Union

North Africa teams is another meaning is the ARAB league (participated ARAB nation cup) in the Africa continent. Even there are basically six nations in this zone (exclude consider Western Sahara), the squad is predominantly covered by players from four nations are Egypt, Morocco, Tunisia and Algeria. There are many lost North African players who have played for European national team, is not included in this squad if never played for African nation and also did not play in Africa as a majority part of career. However, all North-African born-blood players are included in this squad in case they're disqualified for selection of the related European squads  Larbi Benbarek is the first North African legend started from the late 1930s and moved to play in France in the post-war era. and an another example is Zinedine Zidane who eligible to play for both Algeria and France. The most important North African players in history in this first eleven all were created between the 1970s and 1980s.

    Ali Bencheikh and Saleh Selim?

  10. Ali Bencheikh are named in major reserved list. Do you think he is deserved to be in the squad ? Saleh Selim is interesting after I found I misunderstood his position. Was he attacking Midfielder or winger ?

Bencheikh was one of the greatest African footballers in second-half 1970s, awarded 2nd and 3rd best African footballer of the year in 1978 and 1976 respectively. I think he is better player than Mustapha Dahleb in 'Major Reserved Players'. Bencheikh was more important player than Dahleb in national level. Although Dahleb playerd well in France.
Saleh Selim was Great Egyptian attacking Midfielder general, nicknamed "El Maestro". His footage was so great, and although he played football very long years ago, he is respected by many Egyptian football supporters. In 2007, Selim was selected as '13th Greatest African footballer in last 50 years' by CAF internet poll.

    2. Great info. I just know there is a top ten list African footballer of the year in rsssf.com and Bencheikh also finished 6th in 1977 but no other year he finished in top 10. Let me compare with others before making decision. Saleh Selim seems to be fine.

Then I have a question. Why do you rate Mustapha Zitouni as the greatest North African footballers of all time? I don't think he has a better profiles than El-Khatib.

      Delete
    4. I was too impressive with an article of Zitouni. Now I agree to rank him down. I have made Bencheikh and Selim's profile but I even think either of them might replace Mohammed El Tomoumi who won African footballer of the year once time and he only finished in top ten in another year. If awards is reliable, I'm sure Bencheikh is deserved a better place. For Selim, it seems too difficult to know how great was he during the 1950s. How do you think for the idea of replacement ?

      Delete
    5. Anonymous14/7/17

As you said, It mean Bencheikh had comparatively more steady top-class seasons than Timoumi. So I think It's okay to replace.

In Selim's era, there were no 'African footballer of the year award' or any criteria and so I can't estimate exactly how great he was. But as one of the pioneers of African football, I Think he deserved to be better place.

    1. In circumstance of that era, I consider Marcel Salva as African based on my criteria. He not only born and growth in Africa but also first play football in African (Algeria). Apart from that, his 13 caps for France is not significant amount.

  19. What about Ahmed Oudjani, Algerian striker who scored almost 100 goals in Ligue 1 with Lens and was top scorer of the league in 1964?

He only played 5 games with Algeria as the nationaL team joined Fifa in 1964. His score is inferior to Akesbi but nevertheless should be in Major Reserve Players or at least in Minor Reserve Group, in my opinion.

    1. Very interesting profile. He was a starter for Nice that is one of top French clubs at that time in seasons. At least he should be in the reserved list but no information to convince he is deserved in the main squad.

  21. Regarding Ahmed Mohamed Salem, I finally managed to dig up a better picture of the Egypt XI vs Hungary in the 1924 Olympics.

According to him/her, Ahmed Salem is the one circled here:

The Arabic writing here is clear enough to be legible and I ran it through the Google Translate mobile app, which allows scanning of writing on images. It confirms that Ahmed Salem is the one which was circled earlier. The rest of the names scanned also correctly tally with the recorded starting XI vs Hungary.

  23. Benatia is very underrated. Borderline world class at Roma, Bayern, Juventus etc. He has no business neing next to Bougherra and Gomaa. He is better than Ramzy.

  25. Achraf Hakimi I think should be considered. Not only for the achieve of Morocco and his club career with top class performances in Dortmund, Inter and PSG but also because he already accumulates 61 caps at his only 24 y/o and already moved 100M € in transfers. I mean, I think he's at least already better than Hatem Trabelsi.
