Subsaharan-Africa
covers all 48 nations in Africa Continent. However, only nine nations have player qualified for this squad. African players began known in the
worldwide since the 1940s, there are so many lost Major African players since
then. Notably, Eusebio and Mario Coluna transfer nationality to Portuguese in
the 1960s. Until the current era, so many African players have popularly moved
to France since young age and convert nationality to French such as Marcel
Desailly, Patrice Vieira or Jean Tigana. Hence, this has been a main obstacle
to impede the greatness of African football. The lost major-Subsaharan African players all are excluded in this squad. The first true African legend is Osei Kofi from the 1960s. Most Subsaharan African legends were created from in the 1980s. Roger Milla turned history of African football in the 1990s marked his unprecedented greatness. Abedi Pele became the only African player to win African footballer of the year three times in row. George Weah became the first World-Class Subsaharan African player and also the only one to won FIFA World Player of the year. The 2000s saw Samuel Eto'o and Didier Drogba as a succeed world-class strikers.

DeleteI was thinking about Kaier Motang Sr, He was a key player for Orlando Pirates and moves to NASL and was a consistent player, he was voted best rookie in 68 and was NASL top scorer in 69.
DeleteA Really old player could be added as South African, I think about Gordon Hodgson a really strong forward for Liverpool at 20's-30's. He was a prolific scorer between 26 and 35 for Liverpool and between 37 and 39 for Leeds United.

He is rated so high in dbscalcio above 6.3 in the last 3 seasons. He is likely to be included in squad in the near future.

In dbscalcio, I rate the point 6.2 - 6.5 for international-class in Italy. Asamoah will not qualify for 3 international-class seasons as well as Jean Makoun.
DeleteBoth Geremi and Stephen Appiah's rating in DBS Calcio are worse then Asamoah's, but still they are in positional ranking. Asamoah was even voted in Serie A team of the year for the season 2013-2014 and reached quarter finals as a starter with Ghana in 2010 world cup. I'm not saying he should be in the first team, but Appiah was way more inconsistent then Asamoah, and nobody in Italy would tell you Muntari was a better player than him.
DeleteIn case of Appiah, he was not even a regular starter for many seasons but it surprises me that his rating in 2003 is good enough to be classified in world-class with 6.58 so I think he should be in the list. Geremi is not better than Asamoah domestically but I think he is much more contributed in national team.
DeleteAppiah was playing for Brescia when he got that 6,58 rating. During my research on italian players I often see amazing dbs calcio scores for average players who did well in small teams (6.30 + above). Salvatore Di Somma (Avellino libero) has a far better DBS Calcio score than both Bergomi and Cannavaro. Of course, he was nowehere near their level, he just shone for a small team and stood out.
DeleteIn conclusion, a 6.15 at Juve, Inter or Milan has to count more than a high value in a small club. Otherwise, the ratings will be chaotic. Asamoah was an important player to Juve, Appiah never was. And neither Muntari to Milan or Inter.
By the way, if you're mainly based on the ratings, you really need Barzagli in Italian positional ranking since he has 4 seasons above 6.30 (at Juve, not Brescia or Avellino)
Great observe on high rating of average players. If we know the variations of rating standard, we could analyze accurately but it is impossible to do so. Aside from this variation, I think most ratings for superstars are make sense. Now I switch to rate Asamoah in other ways, he seems to achieve at least 3 international-class from 2 Ghanian player of the year and one series A team of the year. He will be made the list.

DeleteI would suggest Joseph Yegba Maya, from Cameroon. His goal per game rate in Ligue 1 with Marseille is very similar to that of Herve Revelli and Bernard Lacombe. One of the best strikers in the '60s in France. He also achieved third place in African Cup with Cameroon.

He played in Ligue 2 in 5 seasons so I'm struggling to acknowledge him so high.

I would really consider him. The second division argument is not so relevant since he played there until his 23 years old only and then got to shine in the first division.
I was studying Nigerian football and I would like to give some suggestions for Positional Ranking:
ReplyDelete1. Christian Chukwu was a centre-back, not a right-back. Nigerian's most considered right backs were Yisa Sofoluwe (who could also play left-back) and Tony Igwe. If Wome fits the lists, both of them definitively could as well.
Goalkeepers: Emmanuel Okala, stars of the 70s decade. Least important carreer than Enyeama but not so much.
2. For centre-backs in positional rankings, if you have West you should as well have Joseph Yobo and Uche Ukechukwu. Both did better in Europe than West, consistency-wise.
3. Defensive Midfield: Sunday Oliseh is Nigerian, not Ghanian as you wrote. John Obi Mikel and most of all Muda Lawal, a real legend of African football, should find a high spot in positional ranking. By the way, you don't have Mahmadou Diarra (Mali) in this list which I find quite strange, Naratorn. He got injured and lost form but he was a star for Lyon and Real Madrid.
Offensive midfield: both Alloysius Atuegbu and Henry Nwosu are less considered than Ilerika, so I think they wouldn't find a spot.
Winger: I'm sure you already considered Emmanuel Amunike but he didn't make the list.
Striker: Yakubu Aiyegbeni deserves a spot, even if it's in the last place.

OK, I have read articles some of your suggested name and some of them has been added in the positional ranking list. I think many of Nigerian players in 1970s and 1980s are not in a good condition to rate in competitive level as they played in only amateur league.

What about Biri Biri from Gambia? He's still today an idol in Sevilla and also had a strong career in Denmark and even made a trial for Brian Clough's Derby County. Sevilla FC ultras call themselves Biris for him.

DeleteI think it should be Frederic Kanoute. He is one of the best Africans to have played in Spain, the architect of Sevilla's first European successes. 136 goals in 290 games. Highlighting his last years where his game was more similar to that of Zinedine Zidane than a pure scorer.
